Kim Vandel has rocketed onto the elite list of my favorite authors. She has a solid style, a masterful control of character and subtext, a way of making even mundane details interesting, and a great slant on supernatural YA.

My only true complaint about this second installment in the series is that it’s TOO SHORT. I could happily have handled five hundred more pages of Kate and company. As it is, I must suffer heroically through another year of waiting for the sequel.

At its heart, this is a romance—and yet, there’s no romance in either this book or the previous one. And that’s half the charm. Vandel is doing what so few authors have the patience or the guts to do in creating a long-lasting, evolving relationship that relies on characterization rather than gratuitously rushed romance.

Can’t wait for the sequel!

Just finished Book Two of the Under Fire series and I enjoyed it even better than the first one. The characters are so believable and I couldn't wait to carve out time from my day to read on and find out what was going to happen next. The book is extremely well-written and edited. My only problem is I can't wait for the next one!
As good as book one, if not better! Vandel has taken a firm second place (very close runner up to my first!) in my favorite Indie authors list, and I eagerly await book three in this series. I discovered these books through a recommendation by K.M. Weiland. i sure am glad i gave that first one a try!
I love this book, and I am particularly hard to please. This book begins a moment after Book 1 ends, so if you have both, it's really great. Vandel has a complete story arc, so you feel satisfied. That said, I can hardly wait for Book 3.
I did something I've never done in all 23 years of fiction reading I read a book twice in two days, back to back. This story has me hooked. I did NOT want it to end. So, I read it again right after finishing it. My laundry didn't get done, dishes piled up, and if my husband hadn't cooked, we'd have been eating cereal for dinner. Hey, don't be hatin'... I read instead of netflix. ;)

I've been Team Hassan since Kate first laid eyes on the guy. And I just can't get enough of them! I love reading a story of a seemingly timid girl being drawn out by a strong guy who supports her and reveals just how much value she's always had even when she didn't see it herself. The other characters completely balance the plot perfectly and the addition of Ty to the team is a catalyst that I can't wait to see developed further in the next book... which I look forward to with hopeless Hassan fan-girl abandon.
This serie is amazin! The suspense and action part were well done. I love this serie and enjoyed reading it, but I want to corroborate that the book was TOO SHORT! Kim Vandel wrote the story so well that made me to want more and wonder about Kate's Gift, Ty's Gift and the blood bond between the two of them. What about Kate and Hassan? What about Nathan and Eden, what happened between them that made her to turn to the dark side? I hope the next book won't too long to write it, because I want answers!!!!!!! Thank you for this serie and making it so good, Kim Vandel!
The first book in this series was one of my favorite reads two years ago. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one, and I wasn’t disappointed. This book definitely doesn't lag like some second books in series. Among the Flames picks up right where Into the Fire left off, so you’ll want to read that one first!

This book continues the solid characterization that made the first book stand out. Kate has grown but remains a consistent character, and Hassan is as amazing as always. Kate’s family relationships are realistic and heartbreaking. Every scene Ty is in made me laugh. He’s even better now that he’s a Guardian too and Kate is struggling with multiple parts of her world colliding.

I was engaged throughout, and though the ending is perfectly satisfying, many questions remain, so I can’t wait for book three.

As with the first book, this one has smooth writing, clever turns of phrase, and many great sentences. I'm looking forward to more of Kate and Hassan and their friends!
The second installment of this series suffers from no sophomore jinx. If anything, author Kim Vandel hits her stride and outpaces the field. The plot thickens as Kate's brother Ty is called as the most unlikely Guardian she can imagine. She now has to juggle that wildcard along with the Guardians continuing search for Eden who left her for dead. Oh and also keep up with her schoolwork so her mother does not suspect anything is out of the ordinary in her life. Whew! All of this is juggled by the author so successfully that my only complaint is ... that the book is too short. Please, Ma'am, may we have some more?
