Meh - while this is among the literary classics, this will not be kept within my shelves - I am already not a fan of first person narratives, and then to be in the mind of a person who has no idea who people are and why he does what he does - he comes off as an unbelievable hero - and I am not too fond of anyone in the family nor the world no the narrative in and of itself - thankfully this story is short enough that I only had to suffer 24 hours before i could put it down and move on - for those that love this, good on you and those who might be interested, don't stand by what I say because many more seem to enjoy this novel and series - I am moving on to something else at this point though - I cannot invest in anymore of the Chronicles of Amber series

A favorite book from the 70's.
I read the Amber series by Zelazny many years ago and have been slowly buying up all of the books again to re-read. Even years later the series, and this book in particular, doesn't disappoint.
Seller delivered book in perfect condition, even included the original insert from Easton that provided some background on Zelazny and the Amber series. More than satisfied.

Amber is one of the most interesting and unique stories Ive ever read,Its a must read for any fans of fantasy,or sword and sorcery.These older books are so much richer in story and character development then anything written these days,Buy it, delve into it,you wont be dissapointed
It's an excellent novel but not good enough to survive this Audible narration. This narration is powerful enough to ruin the entire series. Don't subject yourself to it.
This is a review of the Speaking Volumes CD presentation of _Nine Princes in Amber_. There are other "audiobook" versions of this book out there, but Speaking Volumes' presentation is special it is narrated by Roger Zelazny himself. These recordings, according to the publisher, were made shortly before Roger's death, and were initially thought to be lost. Once found, they were digitally remastered and packaged into this set of 5 CDs. The audio/production quality is quite good.

It is always interesting to hear an author read his (or her) work. You get to hear the story as the author truly meant it, at the rhythms and speed originally intended, even if the author is not a professional "narrator." Roger has a somewhat raspy voice. For me, it is worth the price just to "put a voice" to one of my favorite authors, reading one of my favorite works.

This tale is in the "fantasy" genre. If you are unfamiliar with this book, it is the start of what eventually became 10 novels and a handful of short stories. The "Amber" novels are probably Zelazny's most famous and popular works -- and that is saying something, given his productivity and penchant for garnering awards and nominations.

This book - and the next four novels - follow the adventures of a character who wakes up in a hospital bed, realizing he's been over-drugged for no good reason, and discovering he has no clear recollection of how he got there..... The hero is off on a wild adventure told in the unique Zelazny fashion a cynical, wisecracking, and flawed hero; intrigues and plot twists; vivid imagination; and lively, engrossing tale-telling. (Note at this writing, has an incorrect "Editorial Review" for this book - what is written in that review pertains to the seventh Amber novel, _Blood of Amber_.) I don't want to provide any more spoilers, but if you have to know more, you can do a web search for Zelazny + Amber, and you'll find plenty of fan sites.

But this production is certainly the only one I'm aware of that provides the Amber novels in Zelazny's own voice. And Speaking Volumes has produced all 10 novels in the series, read by Zelazny. For true fans of Zelazny, I think this is a "must have."
